SEBOKENG. – The family of taxi driver Thabo Hatshwayo (31) from Zone 12 says that the events leading up to his disappearance are very suspicious. Thabo went missing on June 28, amost two weeks after the taxi he was driving was seized from his home.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Thabo’s mother Mamorena Hlatshwayo (63) said that the taxi her son drives was stolen from their yard on June 15. “We woke up in the morning and noticed that the taxi had been stolen. Thabo then called his boss, the taxi owner, to alert him of what had happened. He called multiple times but there was no answer.
“Thabo ended up getting hold of him and told him that his taxi had been stolen. The taxi owner arrived and told Thabo that they should both go to the police station to open a case.” Mamorena says that ever since this happened, Thabo was permanently scared. “Thabo told us that he was scared because the taxi owner had made threats to him after the taxi went missing.
“My son is not the kind of person who will just disappear. He always tells his girlfriend where he is going but we have not seen him since and no one knows where he is.”Mamorena says Thabo was last seen entering his house by his next-door neighbour on the day after they made a little money from selling scrap that morning.I was not home that Wednesday and when I got home, I saw that he had been busy making food but then he was nowhere to be seen again.”
Police spokesperson Captain Teboho Lephoto confirms that a missing person’s case is being investigated. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Thabo Hlatshwayo can call Puleng Haltshwayo on: 079 684 0878/ Nomsa Hlatshwayo on 072 377 7272
