VANDERBIJLPARK. – At least about ten members of Police and Prison Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) at the Vanderbijlpark Police Station are being sued for defamation.

This is by former Station Commander Brigadier Sam Manala. Manala said he demands at least half a million rands from each of the members. This defamation case pertains to a rape case where Popcru members allegedly accused Manala of the rape of one of its members.

The matter dates back to when he was still running the station. “The chickens have come home to roost,” said Manala. Rumours are that the members who are being sued are calling on the help of the previous Vanderbijlpark station commander and now Cluster Commander General Zodwa Molefe.

In her time at Vanderbijlpark where she has also been a Station Commander, Molefe was allegedly also accused of not attending to the case. About the defamation case , Manala said the the case will be held at the High Regional Court in Vereeniging on October 5. One of those served with a letter of appearence in the case is Popcru regional leader, Nkosinathi Ndwandwe.
