“My sister was renting a room, so there were other people in the main house. They came out after hearing the gunshot and the landlord had an altercation with the culprit as he was also trying to kill my sister’s one-year-old son, and that is when he shot her in the arm. The landlord is still in hospital.”

The family says they are devastated by this vicious act as it had been three years since Modiehi and the suspect were separated. “She left him because he was controlling and abusive. He did not have to kill her because her three kids aged 14, 10 and one are now left without a mother.” Modiehi’s mother, Eva Lehoko (55) is still in a state of shock. It is said that the culprit has since handed himself over to the police. Modiehi will be buried on Saturday at her home in Tshepiso.
