Upcoming meetings for bird enthusiasts

Namibia's landscape and the country's birds will be discussed at the next meeting of the Vaal Bird Club

Rina de Klerk, secretary of the Vaal Bird Club, writes:

Dear fellow birders,

We had a wonderful birding workshop/outing in Dullstroom. Thanks again to Johan and Marina Fick for making this event possible.

I hope the Flock on the West Coast is as enjoyable.

  1. Coming club meeting on Monday 12 March 2018

Johan Fick will give a talk on “Birding Namibia for Western Specials”. Johan and Marina recently went on a 3 week long self guided tour of Central and Northern Namibia on a quest to increase their knowledge and experience of the country and its birds. They will be showing some stunning photos of not only the birds they encountered but also of the environment ranging from Namib desert, breathtaking mountains through to tropical riverine forest.

Venue: Old Mutual Building in Vanderbijlpark, Time: 19h00

  1. Outing on Saturday 17 March 2018

Jean Wilson will lead our outing on Saturday 17 March and the plan is to go to Vredefort Dam. She is planning to go and scout there this afternoon or tomorrow morning and will give detail of the outing at the meeting on Monday evening. Contact me after after Monday evening if you cannot come to the meeting and would like to join the outing.

  1. Wakkerstroom Friday 27 April to Tuesday 1 May (or Wednesday 2 May) 2018

I have booked one of my favourite birding venues, the Wakkerstsroom Tourism and Education Centre (the Birdlife SA venue), from Friday 27 April to Wednesday 2 May 2018. You are welcome to join for a shorter or longer time.

I will circulate a list at the club meeting so that those of you who are interested can put your names on the list.

Friendly regards,
