Library services halted due to late submissions – Chabalala

Kingsol Chabalala, MPL and Constituency Head of the DA in Emfuleni North.

“Since the departure of disgraced former Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor, Simon Mofokeng, and the appointment of a new ANC Mayor, Jacob Khawe late last year, nothing appears to have changed.”
This is the opinion of DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Mr Kingsol Chabalala (MPL).

“Earlier this month in the Legislature Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, the committee heard that Emfuleni cannot manage to get its financial house in order. The committee was told that Emfuleni once again submitted their Service Level Agreement (SLA) late last year, therefore funds were only transferred to Library Services in the fourth quarter of this financial year.
This means library services will only be fully operational later this year,” says Chabalala.

“Residents are still facing considerable challenges in the municipality. Libraries are essential in ensuring that communities are able to access information. Young people are able to seek jobs and have a safe place to study. Emfuleni deserves a new beginning and a turnaround strategy that will see residents benefitting from a well-functioning and clean government.”
Chabalala added that the DA has submitted questions on the financial state of Emfuleni’s libraries, and what the circumstances and consequences of the late submission are. He also wants to know if the officials responsible for the late submission will be held accountable.
