One person was killed and four others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious following a single vehicle rollover on the R54 on the Villiers road in Vaal Marina yesterday afternoon (Sunday April 8), reports Ineke van Huyssteen, a spokesperson for ER24.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene just before 17:00, they found a vehicle lying on its roof. Upon further assessment, they found one person who had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Three other patients sustained serious injuries and one sustained moderate injuries. Two of the seriously injured were airlifted to hospital by  Netcare 911’s medical helicopter.

Medical service on the scene transported the rest of the injured to hospital for further medical care. The exact details surrounding the incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Ster/Vaalweekblad established unofficially that the deceased person was a little girl aged 8. The parents of some of the Vaal Triangle children involved in the accident were apparently on holiday in Turkey but are on their way back to SA after hearing of the tragedy. They are expected on OR Tambo Airport early this morning.

Ster & Vaalweekblad’s sincere condolences to the two families involved.
