VEREENIGING. – The Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) offices were crowded by angry community members last Thursday.  The angry community members from Zones 14, 17 and 20 in Sebokeng picketed outside the municipal offices to demand that they be allocated RDP houses.

The crowd came in two full buses that travelled from Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14. The memorandum was directed to SDM’s MMC of Housing and Development Planning, Madisebo Khomoeasera. However, she, together with the SDM Executive Mayor Busisiwe Modisakeng were said to be in a meeting, making them effectively unavailable. An official from the office of the mayor received the memorandum on their behalf. Protesters carried placards that declared amongst other things, ‘No houses, no votes’.
Leading from the front William Mofokeng who was said to be the leader of the protesters, handed the memorandum to the official, which was signed by Secretary Nkosi Msimanga and Daniel Matlhaku, Convenor.“I have been living in hell because I have not had my own house since 1996 I have been running up and down. Nothing is happening,” said Annah Mnguni, a 96-year-old woman from Zone 17 who lives with her son-in-law.
A disabled woman by the name Mathepelo Sangweni aged 48 from Evaton, poured her heart out to the masses that as a disabled person she is being humiliated and thrown from pillar to post when she enquires about her house which she has long registerd for. “All I need is a house,” she said. The protesters gave the municipality seven days to respond to their grievances.
