Local teams celebrate Youth Day in winning style

SEDIBENG. – Sedibeng was well represented when Nale Academy, otherwise known as Ama-Cheese Boys, were crowned the 2018 Youth Elite Games Champions at a tournament held at Cosmo City Multi Sports Complex near Johannesburg on Youth Day.

This was after they beat Bophelong FC 5-4 on penalties. At this stage the full time score was 2- 2 and the game was decided on penalties with Nale Academy converting all their penalties and Bophelong FC missing one. The Sedibeng-based team finished at the top of the group with nine points after winning all of its games and ending at the top of the group.

It was an encouraging performance with the referees comparing the team to the legendary Vaal Professionals team. Following the win Nale Academy’s two players have been invited to train with the newly promoted PSL club, Highlands Park, after producing a five star performance on the day.

To add more good news, three Ama-Cheese Boys players were named Player of the Tournament, Defender of the Tournament and Striker of the Tournament. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the game, the Youth Elite Games coordinator, Michael Sebola, described the tournament as a great success.

*Meanwhile, in the spirit of Youth Day Dube FC hosted an annual soccer and netball tournament in commemoration of the Youth Day at the Zone 12 soccer ground on Saturday. The tournament was organised and sponsored by Peter Dube who is the owner of the Dube FC and also a local businessman. The tournament catered for girls and boys for netball and football u/13, u/15 and u/19. The tournament has been running for five years and has attracted a lot of children in and around Zone 12.

*Elsewhere, Sebokeng Ajax FC also hosted Memorial Games at Zone 12 as part of commemorating June 16 on Saturday. The teams that participated in this memorial tournament were All Stars FC, Junior Lions and Sebokeng Ajax.
