SEDIBENG. – Deliwe Mhlongo has been selected to represent Sedibeng at the Senior Spar U/21 National Champions scheduled to take place at Lotto Young Park Sport Complex in Port Elizabeth from July 8 – 14. Mhlongo told Sedibeng Ster Sports she and other Sedibeng players Sedibeng have to raise R3 500. This include accommodation, transport and players’ uniforms. This is because the regional squad doesn’t have sponsorship and most of the players and officials are still students. She told Sedibeng Ster Sports that if she fails to raise this above mentioned amount she won’t make it to Port Elizabeth. She makes a special plea to Sedibeng Good Samaritans to help her and other players go and represent Sedibeng at the Senior Spar National Championship.
This is the problem every year. Players have to raise funds every time they are selected to represent this region at the nationals. Sedibeng Netball Association President Sonti Mqikela said, however, any amount will assist as they are desperately in need of help. She said the region had grown and had played in the league, which was successful this year.
“These players are very talented and the region would really appreciate any assistance for her or other players who have been selected to represent this region. It is every player’s dream to represent her region at this championship which is one of the biggest events in the netball calendar. This is an opportunity for the player and officials to participate in this prestigious tournament where they can also be selected to represent the SA National Team,” she told Sedibeng Ster Sports.
Mqikela said she pleaded that local companies/businesses and individuals would assist them with funds for accommodation and transport, among other things. Those who are interested in helping, Mqikela can be contacted on 016 118 8456 or 060 395 9610. Or the money can be deposited into the Sedibeng Netball Association account: 0530141160.
