Vaal Sports Festival takes the Vaal Triangle by storm

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Quality over quantity. This rang especially true during the Vaal Sports Fest that took the Vaal Triangle by storm during the weekend. All roads lead to the Emerald Resort and Casino where the spectators were treated to sports festival fit for a king. For the first time ever the South African Strongman Championships graced the banks of the Vaal River. Strongwoman Xena Botha stole the limelight from her male counterparts by setting a new South African, dead lift record with a massive lift of 205kg.

The BBSA Sedibeng Bodybuilding Championships also supplied the spectators with enough eye candy. According to DJ Slater, the mastermind behind the Vaal Sports Fest, 139 athletes participated in the 19 divisions. “Although this is slightly less than last year the quality especially in the men’s bodybuilding divisions was the highest I have seen in many years. We have selected a team of 48 athletes to represent Sedibeng at the South African Championships, which will be held in Rustenburg in September,” said Slater.
“This was the first time that the Vaal has played host to the South African Strongman Championship. I believe the event was extremely well received by the audience.”
“We were also lucky enough to have Tri Dragon Academy give various martial arts demonstration throughout the duration of the day.
