VANDERBIJLPARK. – The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) will host its 4th Annual Softball Cancer Awareness Tournament at the Isak Steyl Stadium on October 13.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the tournament’s Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairperson, Godfrey Nwanekah. The VUT Softball team is the defending champion of the tournament and is expected to retain the title come October 13. This initiative started in 2015 and has attracted high-profile softball teams from other countries.
Nwanekah said they expect teams from as far afield as Limpopo, Botswana, Lesotho and Soweto, to mention but a few.
In 2017 the VUT Softball Club had about eight players (current students and alumni) representing the national team of South Africa at the World Series in Canada, making history as the first and only University in South Africa with more players in the national team.
“We are proud to be an ambassador of the positive sporting image for the Vaal University of Technology. I want to thank our partners and stakeholders in advance to make this tournament a success. I have no doubt that this tournament is going to be a huge success with the support of all who are involved,”
