Vaal’s Own One Day Leader

One Day Leader
Sydney Madibo has made it to the finals of SABC's reality show One Day Leader.

VAAL TRIANGLE. – Campus Student Representative Council (CSRC) Chairperson at North-West University (NWU) Vaal BA Education student Sydney Madibo has outdone himself by making it to the top six of SABC’s reality television show One Day Leader. Madibo hails from Sebokeng, where he attended Thuto-Tiro Comprehensive School.

Madibo proudly follows in the footsteps of NWU Vaal alumnus, Ndumiso Hadebo, who walked away as South Africa’s One Day Leader in the second season of the series in 2013. During his time on campus, he has filled many leadership roles, including that of residence chairperson and the CSRC Transformation Officer.

As the second youngest of seven siblings, Madibo – since early on in his childhood, has worked hard to distinguish himself amongst his peers.Madibo fondly refers to his mother as his inspiration as she had to deal with a lot of hardship in her life, but still managed to rise above her circumstances.
“This means I have to show others who find themselves in the same situation that it is possible to rise above life’s hardships,” says Sydney and adds that it also places a responsibility on his shoulders to act with diligence, respect and the utmost humility at all times.
“I have to lead by example,” Madibo concludes.
“This is the kind of legacy that the Vaal Triangle Campus wants to impart: generations of alumni who are committed to the transformation and empowerment of others as a perpetual goal in their own careers,” said acting Campus Rector Professor Linda du Plessis, adding that they are extremely proud of Sydney for having made it to the top six.
The idea behind One Day Leader is not to criticise current leaders or forms of leadership. Instead the show aims to encourage young and bright minds to come up with innovative ways of addressing issues, while exposing them to the kinds of challenges and difficulties leaders face.
