Swimkidz SA’s Peter Polar Bear Challenge

Michelle Booysen of Swimkidz SA would like to tell Vaalies more about a very interesting challenge for young swimmers. She writes:

Swimkidz SA created the Peter Polar Bear Challenge in 2015 to create awareness that children can swim throughout the winter without getting sick. The whole idea of the Challenge was to encourage swimmers to keep on swimming throughout the winter to maintain their fitness and to help them progress quicker, and not to lose momentum. We did some research and we found that if swimmers quit before the winter and only return after winter that they basically had to start from the beginning because they forgot what was learned before. Swimming is a life skill and continuous exercise promotes results. Some children are also very unfit if they return and struggled to get swim-fit again.
Swimkidz SA is one of the only swimming schools in the Vaal Triangle that swim throughout the year. We have 8 franchises in and around the Vaal Triangle that are all indoor and the water is heated between 30 – 33 degrees.
The awesome first prize in the Challenge was sponsored by Emerald Casino. The prize was complimentary entry for 4 kids to the Aquadome, 4 x Complimentary entries to Adventure Golf and 4 x complimentary entries for wall climbing.

This year’s franchise winners are:

Bokamoso Kamolane
Kholofelo Chokoe
Kaleb Dekkers
Bokang Malefane
Narmeen Haider
Jayden Du Plessis
