SEBOKENG. – After producing a five-star performance during the recent Aaron Mokoena Youth Tournament, Kagiso Rakoma was invited for the SA U/17 national team assessment camp held in Johannesburg recently.
This 17-year-old Sebokeng Academy youngster impressed u/20 national team coach Thabo Senong when his team lost 1 – 0 to Nale Academy in the final of the Aaron Mokoena Youth Tournament held at the Boipatong Stadium last month. To add a feather to his cap, Rakoma was named the Defender of the Tournament.
Former Bafana Bafana Captain Aaron Mokoena says he is excited that his wish was granted which was to have a local boy in the national team. During the launch of his tournament held at Emerald Casino last month, Mokoena said his main wish was to see one boy from Sedibeng representing junior national teams.
Speaking with Sedibeng Ster Sport this week, Mokoena said his wish was granted and he is excited that his tournament managed to produce a national team player. However, Mokoena says there are some players that will also be called either to the u/17 or the u/20 national team in the near future.
“I was excited when I received a call from Thabo Senong asking me about the boy, and I said to myself – this is what I wanted to achieve with this tournament. More good news is on its way to this region. Watch this space,” said Mokoena.
Meanwhile, Rakoma played both games when the SA U/17 national team played against Kaizer Chiefs u/17 recently. He was up against another local boy – Lebohang “Musona” Lesako – who created a penalty when Amakhosi babies beat the national team 2 – 1.
