The father of the child, Elliot Chauke says,“I was alerted about the incident and rushed straight to the scene. On my arrival, the owner of the house told me that she rushed outside after the crash and found the driver of the car still in her yard. She then told him that he should help her remove the bricks that had fallen over my son but instead, he got into his car and fled the scene.”
Thulani Kunene, regional ANC chairperson, handed the memorandum to Eskom Executive Daniel Kekane. Kunene said, “As the community of Emfuleni led by the ANC, we note the intention of Eskom to disrupt people’s lives by switching off the electricity.”
R20 million has been allocated to repair this system. “This won’t be an overnight wonder, but at least efforts are being focused on this critical issue. A broad estimate for the repairs is some 13 months, with all funds ring-fenced for specific projects.” Gauteng COGTA is also in discussions with Eskom and Rand Water regarding repayment of the outstanding debts.
